The government could make additional savings on mortgage interest relief this year, after already revising down its projected expenditure on the relief for 2014.

Earlier this year, Minister for Finance Michael Noonan said that the estimated cost of mortgage interest relief was likely to be €350 million this year. Previous estimates had suggested that the relief would cost the government €400 million in 2014.
