Salaries soar for managers in health shake-up

The restructuring of the health service has led to a surge in administrative salaries, with the number of health managers earning more than €75,000 almost doubling in just one year.

In the eastern and southern regions of the health service, the number of highly-paid managers nearly trebled in size, according to official figures from the Health Service Executive (HSE).

The figures reveal that the number of managers earning more than €75,000 a year increased from 330 in January 2005 to 632 in January 2006, bringing the total annual wage bill for senior managers in the health service to €47.4 million.
