Ryanair will need new base for expansion

Ryanair’s next phase of expansion could see the airline basing planes outside Europe and flying to destinations further afield, according to the airline’s chief executive, Michael O’Leary.

Ryanair’s aircraft type means it cannot fly routes that are longer than four and a half hours.

However, if the airline were to base aircraft outside Europe, it could develop a network that would allow passengers to travel between bases in Europe, Africa and Asia.

‘‘When we want to go outside of the EU Open Skies area, we may need to have a base somewhere else with aircraft on a different register,” O’Leary...
