Ryanair loses Alitalia action, will appeal

UPDATE: Ryanair is to appeal a ruling that allows the owners of Alitalia not to repay a €300 million loan from the Italian government.

The European Union’s general court dismissed Ryanair’s action.

The EU General Court in Luxembourg has rejected a claim by Ryanair that the EU was wrong to authorise the sale of Alitalia's assets, despite classifying a €300 million Italian state loan as illegal.

Ryanair is to appeal the ruling which allows the new owners of Alitalia to avoid repaying the state aid.
