RTE’s plans for five new digital TV channels were only given the green light after restrictions were imposed to protect commercial television stations and newspapers, according to documents seen by The Sunday Business Post.

The documents reveal that outgoing Minister for Communications Eamon Ryan stopped RTE from going ahead with the second phase of an entertainment channel and banned its news channel from taking advertising.
