Rumours of a challenge to Brown grow despite denials

British Labour Party deputy leader Harriet Harman is reported to have told her aides that ‘‘this is my moment’’ following the government’s defeat at the Glasgow East by-election.

British Labour Party deputy leader Harriet Harman is reported to have told her aides that ‘‘this is my moment’’ following the government’s defeat at the Glasgow East by-election.

She has subsequently denied making the comment and insisted she is simply ‘‘minding the shop’’ while prime minister Gordon Brown is on holiday.
