RTE seeks more savings on salaries

Staff at RTE are anxious to preserve their pension rights as a 10 per cent pay cut looms, writes Catherine O’Mahony

relative calm descended on RTE last week after Gerry Ryan, the last big name to hold out against a 10 per cent wage reduction, finally agreed to accept the pay cut.

‘‘We’re just speechless,” was the response from one veteran RTE producer last week. He claimed that workers’ resentment of the high-earning 2FM DJ - aside from those in his inner circle - was still running high.
