Row erupts over FG decision to pick McEntee for by-election

Fine Gael is embroiled in an internal row over the selection of the daughter of the late Shane McEntee to contest the Meath East by-election, with party headquarters accused of "politburo politics" in its handling of the nomination process.

There were heated exchanges between Fine Gael general secretary Tom Curran and a local party member at the Kells convention that selected 26-year-old Helen McEntee as the unopposed candidate.
