There is no case to be made for retaining the emergency department at Roscommon Hospital, according to the head of the Irish Association of Emergency Medicine (IAEM). Dr Fergal Hickey, president of the IAEM, said all the clinical evidence available showed that acutely unwell patients got better care in large specialist centres.
‘‘Roscommon’s emergency department deals with just 13,000 presentations a year.
That works out at about 39 a day.
