Romania is a relatively new addition to Irish speculators’ overseas property portfolio. With 22 million inhabitants it is the seventh most populous country in the EU, with the capital, Bucharest, home to some 2.5 million people.

Those selling there say they are generally greeted with wary and cautious comments about poverty and corruption, which, to be fair, are issues that the country is trying to deal with.
