Last Christmas, a little-known rock band called Arctic Monkeys stunned the music and business worlds by conquering the British charts using free music downloads from its own website.

Based on their download success, the band went on to sell a million albums and became rich and famous.

The lesson was not lost on one young Irish band, whose reputation started to grow after it let internet users download its music for free.
