Rise of the smartphone

The burgeoning market for multi-tasking handsets that do much more than make voice calls has led to an inevitable decline in the sales of PDAs (personal digital assistants). As the information management features of these electronic organisers were taken on board by a new generation of smartphones, it became apparent that one device would suffice for most people.
