Complaints to the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal rose by almost two thirds last year.
The Law Society referred 45 solicitors to the tribunal last year, according to the tribunal’s annual report. A further 38 complaints came from members of the public and other bodies. That compares with 24 Law Society complaints in 2004 and 27 complaints by other groups.
The tribunal, which is independent of the Law Society, mainly hears complaints of professional misconduct against solicitors and trainees.
