Minister of State Michael Ring is lobbying for a €40 million sports grants scheme in the budget to pay for sports pitches and dressing rooms.

Like other ministers, Ring is competing with the spending demands being made by Minister for Health Leo Varadkar for around €13 billion to run the country’s health service next year.

This would be equivalent to the spend this year - a €12.5 billion allocation and a supplementary estimate...
