It has been said that, if you are not the kind of person who likes to jump to your feet in acclamation after a performance, then you are probably not the Rachmaninov type.
The Russian composer’s sumptuously lyrical and dramatically powerful Piano Concerto No 2is an obvious example of this contention, and its performance here - with understated style and flair by French pianist Roma in Descharmes - was compelling stuff indeed.
