Revenue turns the screw
The tax authority is escalating its nationwide investigations into the tax tactics of well-paid contractors, writes Ian Kehoe.
How much is too much? It is a question that Revenue officials have been asking for the past 12 months, as they investigate the expenses and subsistence claims of self-employed professionals who operate through their own companies.
The level of expenses being claimed is central to the Revenue's so-called Contractors Project', a nationwide investigation launched last year amid fears that many contractors were deliberately overstating their travel and business expenses to evade tax on earnings.
