The Revenue Commissioners look set to be given the role of collecting the new property tax, meaning it can be deducted from PAYE incomes, ensuring a much higher level of collection than the controversial €100 household charge.

The report on the new tax by a group chaired by Dr Don Thornhill, due to be submitted shortly to the government, will recommend that Revenue be given the job, with efficient collection of the new tax vital...
