The Irish tax authority has contacted a number of high-net-worth tax exiles, seeking explanations as to why they have not paid a €200,000 levy designed to extract more cash from non-resident individuals.

The Revenue Commissioners have dispatched letters to a number of individuals who it believes meet the criteria for the domicile levy, warning that it will begin full tax audits if required.
