The Revenue Commissioners are currently prosecuting almost 2,500 individuals and companies in Irish courts, and are considering taking up to 500 more cases in the near future.
Figures released to The Sunday Business Post by the Revenue show that almost half of the cases relate to outstanding tax debts, while hundreds of cases have also been initiated for income-tax violations, invalid excise licences and fuel tank offences.
