Retail sales boosted by digital switchover

Retail sales rose 3.1 per cent in October from a year earlier, the biggest increase since December 2011, on the back of a rush to buy digital televisions in time for the switch-off of the analogue TV signal.

Analysts at Goodbody noted that core retail sales grew by 1.3 per cent in the month and were up by 3.4 per cent on the year in volume terms, their best performance in four years.
