Restaurateurs have warned about a raft of closures in the sector, as the credit crunch and economic downturn take their toll.

Many restaurants are experiencing a sizeable fall-off in trade and turnover, which is creating cashflow problems for those which cannot get credit from the usual sources. At the same time, operating costs - such as food, labour and taxes - are rising.
