The competitiveness that exists among marine researchers has resulted in Irish-based applications for EU funding being among the most successful.
‘In a little over a decade – through the implementation of a number of strategic programmes – together with a marine research and innovation national programme we have eliminated an 80-year deficit in marine infrastructure and we have capacity now to emerge as an island of marine research and innovation,” said Dr Peter Heffernan, chief exeutive of the Marine Institute.
