The battle for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination sparked into life this weekend - and the fire is likely to keep on growing in the six months until the first electoral contests take place.

Last Thursday saw the first aggressive TV debate between the declared candidates.

Yesterday, a much talked-about straw poll was due to take place in the state of Iowa, which is first to vote.
