Report criticises level of IT skills in civil service

The civil service is spending almost €200million a year on external IT resources, despite employing almost 1,300 dedicated IT staff.

The civil service is spending almost €200million a year on external IT resources, despite employing almost 1,300 dedicated IT staff.

The amount of money being spent is ‘‘too high’’ and there is scope to reduce IT staff numbers and costs considerably, according to the Department of Finance, which is highly critical of IT staffing, skills and procurement in government departments and bodies.
