A major overhaul of auditing at hospitals and health agencies has been recommended in a report by the Dáil's Public Accounts Committee.

The report, which will be published shortly, is highly critical of the fact that the bulk of voluntary hospitals and health bodies, which receive €3.4 billion in exchequer funding, are unaccountable to the state financial watchdog, the Comptroller and Auditor General.
