Two years after it went into examinership with debts of almost €12 million, the music retailer Golden Discs will mark its 50th year in business this year with a series of special events and promotions.

Founded by John Fitz-gerald in 1962, at its peak Golden Discs had 35 branches around the country, but it ran into difficulty due to reduced consumer spending and soaring commercial rents.
