The introduction of a scrappage scheme has buoyed the Irish new car market, with sales up to the middle of May exceeding those for the entire 12 months of last year.

One of the most successful companies in gaining market share under the scheme has been Renault. Along with the Mégane range, its other bestseller has been the Clio, which topped the Irish petrol-engined sales chart in April.
