The Law Re form Commission’s proposals to extend guardianship to civil partners and to give unmarried fathers an automatic right to guardianship have been criticised by the pro-family Iona Institute.

The report on family relationships, published just before Christmas, reiterated its 1982 recommendation that all fathers, regardless of marital status, should have automatic guardianship rights.
