Regulator calls for protection for breakaway credit union

New legislation may be needed to cater for the members of ten credit unions not currently covered by the movement’s savings protection scheme, the Financial Regulator has warned.

The regulator said last week that talks with the Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU), which manages a scheme for more than 500 member credit unions, were still ongoing, but that protecting the savings of members of non-ILCU credit unions was ‘‘a key priority’’....
