The government is to bring in legislation next year to regulate private clampers. At present, car parking companies operating on private property can make their own rules and charge what they like to release a car, and there is no formal independent appeals procedure.

Clamping on private property is not covered by legislation, and the legality of clamping vehicles parked on private property is unclear.
