Referendum: voter turnout has risen to 20%

UPDATE: around 20 per cent of Irish voters had cast their votes on the fiscal treaty by mid-afternoon.

Voter turnout: 20%

Around 20 per cent of Irish voters had cast their votes on the fiscal treaty by mid-afternoon according to various media reports.

Some areas have been reporting lower than normal turnout but the overall result is in line with previous referendums, RTE said.

Polling stations are open until 10 pm.
