Video game panic in Seanad Eireann

Last weekend, a Fine Gael senator declared that video game consoles such as Xboxes were ‘‘not far behind’’ cigarettes in being a serious health threat to Irish people.

The senator, Fidelma Healy Eames, made her considered diagnosis following the death of a 20year-old Englishman from deep-vein thrombosis (DVT).

The death was reported as having a connection with the victim’s use of gaming consoles.
