The challenges of running a business in the current economy are not reflected in the Joint Labour Committees (JLC) system, which is in the process of being reformed. Far-reaching measures are badly needed in some sectors to take our changed economic backdrop into account.

The current JLC system sets pay and conditions for employees in many labour intensive sectors in Ireland such as retail, catering, electrical and construction. It was deemed unconstitutional in July 2011....
