Lawyers for a convicted violent rapist have been granted leave to seek a review of the Prison Service telephone recording systems, after prison authorities admitted that they listened in to calls he made to his legal team.
It is the first time that a lawyer has sought to challenge the prison service since last April's revelation that 139 prisoners had had their private phone calls to defence lawyers recorded.
