Rahm Emanuel, the former chief of staff to President Barack Obama, is on the brink of becoming mayor of Chicago, where voting takes place on Tuesday.

Emanuel is the front-runner to take control of his home town, America’s third-largest city. A recent poll put him at 49 per cent, placing him well ahead of everyone else in the multi-candidate field.
