Slagging, bluster and no room for irony

Another gory week in the Middle East generated the usual quotient of abrasive radio. But Coleman At Large (Newstalk 106-108) wasted its first half-hour on filler and fluff, with Israeli ambassador Zion Evrony showering praise on his homeland’s knowledge economy and Alan Shatter telling stories of his kibbutz years.

Eventually, things picked up. Evrony implied that Irish people lacked the mental capacity to understand the Israelis’ ‘‘unique bond’’ with the land they moved...
