Brendan Balfe, who presented Medium Wave Goodbye, said it was originally an English marching tune, but the word on the web is that it was composed by Carrick-on-Suir man Joseph Haliday, bandmaster of the Cavan Militia. Who knows?
Balfe’s archive hunt went right back to 1926, to the voice of President Douglas Hyde opening the station...
