The Vatican’s canons ring increasingly hollow

Enda Kenny’s ‘‘This is the Republic of Ireland 2011’’ speech was, untypically, a blinder. The only thing wrong with it was that it should have been delivered in, say, 1994. It’s also hard to visualise it coming at us via the lips of certain former statesmen.
