Rushdie’s comeback on a magic carpet
Just days after the Man Booker prize was won by Howard Jacobson with a novel that barely anybody seems to have read, Arena (RTE Radio 1) welcomed a rather more celebrated Booker winner, Salman Rushdie, onto the airwaves.
Talking in sentences so neatly formed that they virtually had a postage stamp on the corner, Rushdie was a genial and engaging interviewee, belying his public image as something of a self-important stuffed shirt.
