Former Labour leader Ruairi Quinn has come to the defence of his successor, Pat Rabbitte, in the controversy over whether the Labour leader would contemplate coalition with Fianna Fail after the next general election.
Quinn, who led Labour into the last general election on an independent strategy, said that, if there was no clear result after the next election, every party would have a responsibility to look at forming a government.
