Quinn gets approval for disputed quarry
Fermanagh billionaire Seán Quinn has been given the goahead for a 110-acre limestone quarry near Swanlinbar, Co Cavan.
The Quinn Group plans to extract about a million tonnes of limestone a year from the site over 50 years. Its application was approved last week by An Bord Pleanála, subject to a number of conditions.
The decision of Cavan County Council to approve the scheme had been objected to by two parties, heritage bodyAnTaisce and a group of residents who live near the area.
