The government’s bid to reduce the €108 billion public sector pension bill will face a legal challenge from public service employees and pensioners.

Finance minister Brian Lenihan announced plans in the budget to break the link between public sector pay and post-retirement pension increases. All pay increases awarded to public servants are reflected in the pensions of retired public sector workers.
