Public finances still the central challenge

You would know there was an election on the way. In short order, the government has announced - or hinted at - a stimulus programme for the construction sector, the launch of the new strategic investment fund and the possibility of some kind of tax cuts in the budget. People are tired of austerity, and the government parties are responding. But there is a need for a reality check.
