Despite falling sales of alcoholic drinks, a substantial number of pubs changed hands this year.

Despite falling sales of alcoholic drinks, a substantial number of pubs changed hands this year. Leading publicans including Louis Fitzgerald and the O'Dwyer brothers pressed ahead with new openings and renovation programmes.

However, they bid farewell to Hugh O'Regan, who sold his Thomas Read Group for €32 million to Connolly Corporate Finance.

O'Regan is to concentrate on the leisure sector in future.
