Psychiatric patient loses release bid

A woman who said she could ensure that certain sporting teams were successful in competitions was properly detained in St Patrick's Hospital, the High Court has ruled.

A woman who said she could ensure that certain football and rugby teams were successful in the English Premier League and the Heineken Cup was properly detained in St Patrick's Hospital, the High Court has ruled.

The woman - identified only as XY - was detained in St Patrick's University Hospital under the 2001 Mental Health Act on May 24 and began judicial review proceedings a week later. She claimed she was "perfectly sane" and...
