Some 4,000 security guards, bouncers and people installing alarms have been issued with licences by the Private Security Authority (PSA) since the start of the year.

The authority is currently processing more than 20,000 applications for licences, which became a legal requirement last April.

The first licences were issued at Christmas and the PSA has since issued 4,000. It hopes to send out the same number this month.
