Private maternity costs soar as mothers opt for public care

The cost of private and semi-private care at Dublin maternity hospitals has soared, with Holles Street more than doubling its non-refundable deposit from €500 to €1,200.

The cost of private and semi-private care at Dublin maternity hospitals has soared in recent years with Holles Street more than doubling its non-refundable deposit from €500 in 2010 to €1,200 today.

The Rotunda charges semi-private patients a non-refundable deposit of €1,200, up from €800 in 2009. The Coombe levies a €1,048 fee but, unlike the other hospitals, that does not cover the cost of ultrasound scans.
