Private equity firms take a bigger bite of food sector

Ireland's food industry can attract significant investment through imaginative financing schemes, in advance of the ending of milk quotas, writes Ciaran Bolger.

There were ten significant US/Irish mergers and acquisition transactions last year in the food and beverages sector, compared with only two in 2011.

Glanbia, Greencore, Kerry Group and C&C all made major purchases in the US last year. In the other direction, US acquisitions of Irish businesses in the food and beverages sector included Hain Celestial's €10 million acquisition of Cully & Sully.
