Private equity firm close to buying MBNA Europe

New York-based private equity firm Apollo Global Management has indicated it is close to buying the MBNA credit card operation in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim.

New York-based private equity firm Apollo Global Management has indicated it is close to buying the MBNA credit card operation in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim.

It is understood the deal will involve the part of the operation serving the Irish market, which employs 250 people in the town. Discussions are ongoing in relation to the operation (also in Carrick-on-Shannon) serving the British market, which employs the remainder of the 750 staff, according to a well-informed source.
