Private deposits at Irish banks have fallen 5 per cent while SME lending is down 8.2 per cent since last year, latest central Bank data has shown

Private deposits at Irish banks have dropped by five per cent in the past year and were down 0.6 per cent in the most recent quarter, according to figures released by the Central Bank.

Lending to non-financial, non-property related SMEs fell by 1.1 per cent or €296 million over the quarter and by €2.5 billion over the year (8.2 per cent), bringing total lending to SMEs in these sectors at end-September 2011 to €26.2 billion.
